According to the AP, Anton Yelchin, best known for playing Chekov in the new “Star Trek” films, has died at the age of 27. He was killed in a fatal traffic collision early Sunday morning, his publicist, Jennifer Allen confirmed.
Yelchin’s career got underway in 2001 and he was nominated and won several young artist awards over the years with Hearts in Atlantis and Star Trek. The third film in the Star Trek series is due out in theaters next month as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations, which will take a bit of a different tone with his passing.
The actor had no upcoming projects that he was currently filming, with We Don’t Belong Here having completed but no release date yet. Yelchin had one anime voice acting credit to his name as well as he played Shun Kazamade in From Up on Poppy Hill.
