Titan Comics Acquires ‘Robotech’ Comic License

Robotech Titan ComicsWith a solid history of adaptations and expansions over the past few decades in comic form, it looks like it’s time to return to the world of Robotech once again in this medium. Titan Comics has announced that they’ve picked up the rights to publish new comic books in this franchise. The publisher, who has been doing a range of licensed work for the last couple of years including Doctor Who, has plans for an early 2017 debut for the series with the creative teams to be announced soon.

“At Titan we’re thrilled to be publishing brand new Robotech comic books,” said Direct Sales & Marketing Manager Ricky Claydon. “It’s a privilege to contribute to the rich galactic tapestry of such a beloved franchise. Titan Comics promises to delight original fans and newcomers alike.”

Tommy Yune, President of Animation at Harmony Gold USA added, “Inspired storytelling is a cornerstone of the Robotech universe and we’re absolutely thrilled to have a partner with a respected editorial pedigree as Titan.”

Series premise: In 1999, an alien ship crashes on South Atalia Island and makes the human race aware of other life in space. Ten years later, the ship is reconstructed and christened as the SDF-1 Macross. However, on the day of its maiden voyage, an alien race called the Zentraedi make their appearance on Earth, beginning the UN Spacy/Zentraedi war that would change the history of both races forever.
