New ‘KochiKame’ Anime Project in the Works for 40th Anniversary

2 min read

KochiKameEver since a Japanese DVD release came out well over a decade ago that had English subtitles for one of the movies, I’ve waited and hoped that the KochiKame anime would get a pickup over here. While that hasn’t happened yet, I may be closer to actually seeing material from the original manga by Osamu Akimoto as a new TV project is in production as part of the 40th anniversary this year. With more news to come in Weekly Shonen Jump next week, the original work began back in 1976 and is published to this day with 199 volumes so far. A TV series was produced back in 1996 that ran until 2004 which total 373 episodes. There are two feature anime films as well.

Yet with all that material, it’s almost like the show never existed with how little mention it gets in general, even though it’s been running for so long and had so much anime produced.

Plot concept: Ryoutsu, being an underpayed policeman, is always coming up with ways to make some quick money. But in the end, his plans which are ridiculous from the beginning always go wrong and land him in big trouble with the Buchou.
