With the Tubi TV announcement earlier today that involves a range of Sentai Filmworks titles, one of those included was the Mezzo DSA TV series. The show was originally licensed and released by ADV Films over a decade ago and they had their last release for it in 2008. Section23 brought it out in early 2009 but it’s been missing in action ever since. With it being included in the streaming deal with Tubi TV, there’s definitely a good chance for it to find new life.
Originally airing in 2004 for thirteen episodes, the series was directed by Yasuomi Umetsu based on the scenario from Takao Yoshioka, who wrote the majority of the scripts. With Umetsu serving as the chief animation director and character designer, it was animated at ARMS. The Japanese cast includes Miyu Matsuki as Asami Igarashi, Taichirou Hirokawa as Kenichi Kurokawa, Takumi Yamazaki as Tomohisa Harada and Tomoko Kotani as Mikura Suzuki. The English cast includes Andy McAvin as Kenichi Kurokawa, Jason Douglas as Tomohisa Harada, Luci Christian as Mikura Suzuki and
Sasha Paysinger as Asami Igarashi.
Plot concept: Mikura, Kurokawa, and Harada are the 3 members of the Danger Service Agency (DSA). Mikura is the brawns of the group, Harada is the brains, and Kurokawa is just a bitter ex-cop that likes to think he’s in charge. They’ll take on any job as long as it involves lots of danger and, of course, money. If you want to live long enough to eat dinner, you better not cross them. Their biggest case, however, could prove to be finding out why someone wants Kurokawa assassinated.
