With “season four” getting underway with this episode as its first, we get some cute recap of sorts at first with the rankings before digging into everything in discovering that the space patrol head boss is actually a Blackholeian. That adds a new level of danger, one that shows Nova on his side that shakes the team as we learn how Blackholeian’s are basically shoplifters of all the great stuff in the universe. The Blackholeian is a lot of fun to watch here as he deals with this ragtag group overall and somewhat because of the character design that just delights. When he reveals what the greatest prize is with a middle school first love, told in such a terrible way, well, you can’t help but laugh and understand what Luluco is going through. Especially since Nova is playing so aloof at this point, driving the stake into her heart even more.
In Summary:
The drama ramps up in a big way here and the music in the final minute or two serves it well to give it full daytime soap opera level drama feelings about it. The reveal of the Blackholeian is spot on perfect for me with what it does here and I love that we get so much revealed with such style, both in the performance and the visual design for him. Watching as he goes through this and as Luluco takes it all in where it keeps beating her down just makes it all the more delicious.
