The winter 2016 anime series Reikenzan largely went unnoticed by many both in Japan and abroad, though it is getting a second season that’s on its way. Frontier Works has set up their home video release plans for Japan for it and it’s interesting that it’s getting just a DVD release and doubly so for the reveal that it received a Chinese language dub as well. We’ve now added the cover artwork for the first four volumes of the series, bringing us up to date with it. The twelve episode series is getting a six-volume release that began on March 23rd, 2016 where each volume will be priced at 4,500 yen.
The show is based on the Chinese online fantasy novel Congqian You Zuo Ling Jian Shan, which translates as Once Upon A Time There Was A Spirit Sword Mountain. That work has thirteen volumes so far. The series was directed by Iku Suzuki with character designs by Makoto Iino. Yumiko Ishii served as the chief animation director. The cast includes Tsubasa Yonaga as Wang Lu, Yuriko Yamaguchi as Ōbu, Daiki Kobayashi as Ōchū, Masakazu Nishida as Kaiunho, Kenichirou Matsuda as Iemoto and Nako Eguchi.
The opening theme song is performed by Niconico artists Soraru and Mafumafu, while the ending theme song is performed by Niconico artist Kakichoco.
Plot concept: Since its founding in the year 4233 of the Nine Provinces calendar, the spirit sword clan has been producing first-class martial arts talent. Two thousand years later, the clan, which adheres to the principles of peace and spiritual development, seeks to find new disciples by holding a grand tournament. One of these candidates is 12-year-old Wang Lu.
