Pony Canyon Sets New ‘Outbreak Company’ Blu-ray Anime Box Set

2 min read

Outbreak Company VisualPony Canyon finished oeut the releases for the Outbreak Company series back in the spring of 2014 and since it’s been a couple of years they’re finally getting around to doing a Blu-ray only box set for it. Scheduled for July 20th, 2016, the set will be priced at 16,000 yen, which is definitely well priced considering the singles were just under 7,000 yen each. The set lists as six discs inside so it’s likely just a packaging of the previously used discs as opposed to a new encode, but the solicitation at the moment doesn’t list any extras so we’re not sure what all will be included until we get closer to the release itself.

Sentai Filmworks picked up the series for release in North America previously while Madman released it in Australia and MVM Entertainment in the UK, all of which were in bilingual form. Check out our review of the series here.

Studio feel worked on the animation for this series, which is an adaptation of Ichiro Sakaki’s light novel series of the same name. The fantasy/comedy series was originally published in 2011 with art by Yuugen and has had a positive response overall. Fourteen volumes of the light novels have been published so far and a manga adaptation with artwork by Kiri Kajiya began back in November of 2012 that ended with three volumes in November 2014.

Plot Concept: Shinichi Kanou’s father writes novels and his mother illustrates erotic video games, so it’s not unexpected that he’d end up as a fan of comics and science fiction. However, rather than channeling his efforts into creating like his parents, he has instead become one of the world’s foremost experts on “moe,” with an encyclopedic knowledge of all things cute and adorable in every conceivable form of animation and media. This sort of explains Shinichi’s recruitment as an ambassador for moe to the Holy Erudanto Kingdom, a parallel world where things that previously only existed in anime actually exist! So how will a hot blooded young otaku react when dropped into a world with actual cute and adorable elf maids and dragons? More importantly, how will THEY react to this drooling devotee with diplomatic credentials? And even more to the point, exactly WHY does the Japanese government feel that sending someone to represent Japan’s moe interests is a good idea in the first place? Sorry, no spoilers! If you want to learn more, you’ll have to come along for the adventure as the ultimate anime fans’ fanboy fantasy unfurls in OUTBREAK COMPANY!
