What They Say
In the Land of Owari, Utsuho meets the local hero Gin Hobau, who winds up being the Itsuwaribito who killed Utsuho’s family! Yearning for revenge, Utsuho confronts Gin in the street, which turns out to be a very bad decision. His friends try to help, but they prove no match for Gin and his partner Kin, who seem unstoppable. Have the adventures of Utsuho and company finally come to an abrupt end?

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
Utsuho has done what he always hated; abandon his friends and used others to get what he wants. All to take revenge on Gin, the Itsuwaribito that killed his parents.. But, Utsuho didn’t just abandon his friends, he said terrible things to them to be sure they wouldn’t try and follow him down his road to revenge. Remember, when planning revenge, dig two graves because you probably won’t survive.

Utsuho needs help distracting the villagers in the town castle so he can go after Gin, who is setup nicely. Since Gin is an expert Itsuwaribito, he has the town and the princess wrapped around his finger. So much so that he is betrothed to the princess and her father is ill enough that it will be no time before Gin is the head of Owari. Utsuho has to stoop to underhanded deception to trick a gang of bandits into storming the castle to loot the treasure storeroom.

There is no treasure, and the guards of the castle were not lured away by the commotion Utsuho had setup outside. Thus the bandits become Utsuho’s sacrificial lambs, keeping the guards busy while he sneaks into the inner keep to face Gin. But can Utsuho’s lying compete with Gin’s? Can he avoid the diverse and numerous traps Gin has been setting around the castle? Can he do any of this on his own without the friends he turned away?

In Summary
Utsuho and his gang have found themselves in many tough spots during this series. But without his companions by his side, Utsuho is unlikely to triumph against the skilled Itsuwaribito, Gin, on his home turf. All this makes for an interesting volume as Utsuho is outmatched, alone, and resorting to devious methods that even he has spent his life despising. It is an interesting examination of not only an anti-hero on the ropes, but of the desperate measures many people will resort to in order to accomplish their deepest desire.
