Well, this has all the hallmarks of really hitting things out the park right. While Warner Bros. is bullish on Suicide Squad for later this year, they’re also apparently quite bullish on Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.
Apparently she pushed and prodded an idea with the studio about doing a feature film with all female superheroes that would involve Harley as well. To the point where she’s going to be a producer on it in addition to starring in it. The premise hasn’t been laid bare but there’s dialogue about it including the Birds of Prey characters so that we’ll have the two main sides involved, which means we could see some pretty sweet characters on Harley’s side – especially if Poison Ivy gets to be involved.
“Sources say that Robbie was the impetus for the project, adding that when she got the part for the movie, she dove deep into the comics to learn as much as possible on the character. In the process, she fell for DC’s female characters. She brought on the writer to help develop the project and brought it Warners, which snapped it up.”
The Birds of Prey team has varied over the years to some degree, but the one that has been the most defined and sought after involves the team put together by Writer Gail Simone, which included Oracle/Babara Gordon, Black Canary/Dinah Lance and Huntress. There’ve been more over the years and different levels of participation amongst the members but it’s long been a fan favorite. Check out the full group history here.
