What They Say
Mikoto Misaka is a Level Five esper-one of the most powerful in Academy City. She’s so powerful, in fact, that her DNA has been harvested to create a series of clones-the “Sisters”. But who is behind these clones, and why would they go to such lengths? The sinister truth is nothing she or Touma could have imagined, and it involves the terrifying Accelerator, the most powerful esper of all time!
Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
Touma is still suffering from his amnesia, and it makes his interactions with everyone in his life awkward. That is especially true anytime someone new starts talking to him in a familiar way. The latest person to do this is a cute girl from the most prestigious school in Academy City. Touma can’t imagine how he would know someone like this, and it becomes even more shocking when he learns she, Misaka, is one of the five most powerful espers in the whole city. Even more surprising is the way she speaks to him and flashes her temper, which shows that his right hand can nullify her esper power. That is new to Touma.
Touma’s amnesia causes only more problems with Misaka when she leaves and then her twin shows up! It seems this second Misaka is the little sister, but Touma swears she could be a clone. Oh, but if only he knew how right he actually was.
This volume spends a lot of time with the Misaka clones and their battle with Accelerator. Compared to the two various story arcs from the anime series in set in this world, this Accelerator story arc is actually my least favorite. I can’t stand Accelerator and his desire of power being so strong that he has no problem killing hundreds of Misaka clones. It is just sick and makes me as mad as it does Touma and the original Misaka.
Touma’s amnesia continues to be a problem for him. He keeps meeting people that know him but he doesn’t remember them. The newest person for him in this volume is Misaka, and her little sister. It takes most of the volume for him to realize that Misaka’s “little sister” is actually one of the hundreds of clones being used by Academy City. This forces Touma to decide how he will react to his newfound knowledge. He can ignore the disgusting way Academy City is flaunting its power. He can decide to hate Misaka for letting the clone situation happen. Or he can choose to dig deeper and attempt to stop the cone experiments with Accelerator. I know what I hope Touma will decide to do.
