NBC Universal Japan announced back in March that they have a new Blu-ray box set for the series Kono Minikuku mo Utsukushii Sekai, which was localized as This Ugly Yet Beautiful World when released by ADV Films in North America previously. The set was previously scheduled for a May 25th, 2016 release but now has a new date of June 23rd, 2016. It’s still fairly rare that anime releases get delayed so it’s fairly notable. The set will be priced at 18,000 yen for the complete run. It comes also with two CD soundtracks, a drama CD with the Konomini-TV day time/night time material in MP3 form and a 40-page booklet.”), booklet (40 pages), and special packaging. On-disc extras for the set include the clean opening and closing plus bonus material.
The series originally aired in the spring 2014 anime season and was directed by Shouji Saeki with Kazuhiro Takamura serving as the character designer and chief animation director. Hiroyuki Yamaga worked on the series composition and it was produced by Gainax and Shaft.
Plot concept: High school student Takeru Takemoto works part time as a (motor)bike courier. During one of his deliveries, he saw a mysterious light passing him and fell into a forest. What he had found was a beautiful girl coming out from a glowing cocoon, calling herself “Hikari.” While Takeru was quite embarrassed because of Hikari’s nudity, a strange monster suddenly showed up and immediately attacked the two. Both Takeru and Hikari demonstrated the power of their other selves before Takeru had a clue of what’s going on.
