With a live-action film coming for Wolf Girl and Black Prince, the Japanese distributor VAP is looking to make a little more yen on the property that they have the rights to. They’ve now announced a new DVD box set will land on May 25th, 2016 that will have the entire twelve episode series for a reduced price. set for 9,600 yen, it’s a steal when you consider the six volumes were released back in late 2014 and throughout 2015 at 4,800 yen per volume on DVD. The release reworks the episodes down to two DVDs and includes a booklet and a slipcover for the case but no on-disc extras, making them original releases still of interest for fans who wanted more than just the show.
Sentai Filmworks holds the North American rights and released the series previously on DVD and Blu-ray editions.
The series comes from Ayuko Hatta, which began back in 2011 and has fouteen volumes released in Japan so far, along with a few spinoffs such as a novel and Drama CD. The series was directed by Kenichi Kasai based on scripts by Sawako Hirabayashi with character designs by Maki Fujioka, who also served as the chief animation director.
The cast includes Kanae Ito as Erika Shinohara, Takahiro Sakurai as Kyoya Sata, Ai Kayano as Ayumi Santa, Mariya Ise as Marin Tachibana, Mikako Komatsu as Aki Tezuka, Nobunaga Shimazaki as Yoshito Kimura, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Nozomi Kamiya, Yoshimasa Hosoya as Takeru Hibiya and Ayumu Murase as Yū Kusakabe.
Plot concept: Everyone knows that lies can come back to bite you, but when Erika makes up a fake boyfriend to impress her new classmates, the results may literally end up hounding her forever! Yes, it was dumb, but what were the odds that the random guy whose picture she used would turn out to be a student at her own school? Or that said faux-boyfriend’s silence would come with such a horrible price? Now Erika doesn’t just have to run and fetch at Kyoya Sata’s command, she has to bark too! Because he’s literally treating her like a dog, and she just has to roll over and take it, or he’ll tell everyone the truth! But that’s not the worst part, because even though this wolf in hunk’s clothing has Erika collared, she may be starting to have REAL feelings for him anyway! Is she barking up the wrong tree, or could true love be unleashed in WOLF GIRL & BLACK PRINCE?
