Marvel Finally Pulls ‘Inhumans’ Feature From Schedule

2 min read

Inhumans HeaderWhile there are usually rumblings of different kinds for the various projects Marvel has in the works for film and TV, look at the rumors of Iron Fist being shelved as a recent example that was completely off base, sometimes these things do pan out. There’s been a lot of potential problems for the Inhumans feature they have planned for 2019 that was announced in late 2014, some of which is just the changing nature of the marketplace in putting something tentatively in the works that far out. To complicate matters, the TV series Agents of SHIELD took full command of a variant of the Inhumans in their second season as a way similar to the comics to get around the inability to use mutants as Fox has those rights locked up in their X-Men franchise.

So when Disney confirms that Inhumans has been pulled from its July 12, 2019 release, nobody should really be surprised. The other part of this is that there are a lot of irons in the fire with Disney in trying to get so many movies from their mini-studios out without competing against each other that it’s getting tighter and tighter. With Star Wars movies in the mix plus Pixar and others, there’s also the nod made by Marvel Studios Kevin Feige indicating that one reason for the shift is that the net Indiana Jones film is set for July 19th, 2019. So that would have to recalibrate things anyway. Add in that the studio picked up contributing rights on Spider-Man: Homecoming and then added Ant-Man and the Wasp for July 6th, 2018 and their schedule really did become busy.

According to Deadline, the film isn’t dead but rather just unset until they can schedule it properly with less competition. They’ve got a script from Joe Robert Cole already that will likely be tweaked a bit as time goes on to adjust to the other films that are in play.
