ABC went through some changes recently with Paul Lee leaving as network president with Channing Dungey taking over and she’s doing things differently. While Lee would wait until just before upfronts to make renewal announcements, Dungey is getting it out of the way early. That’s a big and positive move for existing shows that can now ensure writers are staying with the programs and new ones can be grabbed before getting drawn into other properties. It also adds a couple of months to the creative side as the ABC upfronts are May 17th; that means showrunners and creative can start now in March putting things together for storylines.
While we’re still hoping Agent Carter comes back, ABC has made the renewal nod for Agents of SHIELD, which while not a ratings powerhouse in the live/+3 form, it picks up a good bit along the way and through streaming channels.
“Before we can embark on Season 4,” says Marvel, “Director Coulson and his tireless team still have to face the menace of Hive and the world’s growing concerns about the number of Inhumans popping up across the globe. There’s plenty to come as we begin the second half of Season 3, and you won’t want to miss a minute of it!”
Check below for the full slate of ABC renewals so far.
The series stars Clark Gregg as Director Phil Coulson, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May, Brett Dalton as Grant Ward, Chloe Bennet as Agent Skye, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons, Nick Blood as Agent Lance Hunter, Adrianne Palicki as Agent Bobbi Morse and Luke Mitchell as Lincoln.
Plot concept: “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” returns for a game-changing fourth season. In the aftermath of their journey to another planet, Director Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and the rest of the team are more driven than ever to put an end to Gideon Malick (guest star Powers Boothe) and the Hydra organization. Little do they know that they are up against the deadliest threat they’ve ever faced – an extremely powerful Inhuman who was transported back from Maveth in the body of their worst enemy, Grant Ward (Brett Dalton).
