Warner Bros. Japan is getting things in order for the upcoming Terra Formars live-action feature film that’s due out on April 29th, 2016. With a new anime season coming this year as well as a new spin-off manga series, bringing out a new film in the midst of it makes for a pretty solid cross-marketing approach. The new trailer clocks in at just about 90 seconds and provides a good range of material from the manga that fans will either love or be frustrated by..

The original work comes from the manga by Kenichi Tachibana and Yu Sasuga and the film is going to be interesting with Takashi Miike set to helm it. The adaptation comes after the OVA and TV series for the property that dealt with different aspects over the overall arc of the film. It’s filming in Japan and Iceland.

The anime adaptation was produced at LIDEN FILMS with Hiroshi Hamasaki directing based on scripts by Shogo Ysukawa. Character designs were done by Masanori Shino while Satoshi Kimura did secondary character design work.

Plot concept: TERRAFORMARS makes its anime debut as a startling work of science fiction and adventure. With Earth becoming increasingly overpopulated, an ambitious plan has been put into place to terraform Mars using mold and cockroaches. Nearly 500 years after the plan, a mission to Mars, Annex 1, is under way to accomplish crucial research into the Virus currently plaguing mankind with the crew members who’ve been injected with various DNA of life on Earth in order to combat the Terraformars, giant humanoid cockroaches.
