Warner Bros. Japan has done some pretty solid marketing for their anime properties over the last few years and they’ve got a lot they can do with Terra Formars. With a second season coming up and a new live-action film, the distributor has now put out a quick hit but entertaining promo that covers the anime adaptation, the live-action piece, as well as the manga.
The two anime season were animated at LIDEN Films again with TYO Animations, but it’s being directed by Michio Fukuda. Series composition is also changing as it’s now being handled by Naruhisa Arakawa. Character designs are now being done by Cagetzu Aizawa and Atsushi Ikariya which is also a change.
In North America, Viz Media is serving as the master licensor for the property itself and releasing the manga, but nothing has been said by anyone about the anime itself. With Warner Bros. Japan heavily involved in the production, speculation is that Warner Bros. Home Entertainment may end up releasing it.
The first season of series stars Yoshimasa Hosoya as Akari Hizamaru, Hidenobu Kiuchi as Shōkichi Komachi, Shizuka Itou as Michelle, Kaito Ishikawa as Marcos, KENN as Alex, Ai Kayano as Sheila, Daisuke Ono as Keiji Onizuka, Chiaki Takahashi as Kanako Sanjō, Aki Toyosaki as Yaeko Yanasegawa, Tomokazu Sugita as Ichirō Hiruma, Koji Yusa as Adolf Reinhard, Akira Ishida as Joseph, Unshou Ishizuka as Sylvester, Tetsuo Komura as Liu Yiwu, Ayane Sakura as Eva Frost, Kenji Akabane as Ivan Perepelkina, Romi Park as Elena Perepelkina and Toshiyuki Morikawa as Shichisei Hiruma.
The first season was produced at LIDEN FILMS with Hiroshi Hamasaki directing based on scripts by Shogo Ysukawa. Character designs were done by Masanori Shino while Satoshi Kimura did the secondary character design work.
Plot concept: TERRAFORMARS makes its anime debut as a startling work of science fiction and adventure. With Earth becoming increasingly overpopulated, an ambitious plan has been put into place to terraform Mars using mold and cockroaches. Nearly 500 years after the plan, a mission to Mars, Annex 1, is under way to accomplish crucial research into the Virus currently plaguing mankind with the crew members who’ve been injected with various DNA of life on Earth in order to combat the Terraformars, giant humanoid cockroaches.
