What They Say:
Galko, Otako and Ojou are a trio of unlikely friends in high school with three very different perspectives. Each episode embarks on a day in the life of a trendy girl, an otaku, and a lady, as they discuss their “girl problems.”

Galk-chan worked its opening episode well by playing the angle that the girls are going to talk just as bluntly as the guys more often than not. Just not in mixed company most of the time. Galko may be the one that plays against that type a bit as she’s a bit more blunt and that works well since she’s got a fun good way of going about it. Her style does rub her friends the wrong way a bit at times, such as the prologue shows when she and Otako are off looking at pads and tampons and talking about some of the “truths’ in regards to them. That’s something that’s certainly hard for Otako to work with.
As expected, the show hits some cute gags in quick order overall, from Otako telling Galko to do headstands in the morning to wake up faster to Galko digging into some super caffeine material in order to boost up her alertness. Amusingly, Otako and Ojou have running bets on Galko’s bathroom breaks with what she does in there since she often takes a while, which certainly frustrates her when she finds out. The back half delves into the whole color of panties things as we get some of the guys scoping out the class and using the familiar idea that those who wear colored panties are more promiscuous. Their vision of things is comical to be sure – and honest in the way they view the girls as well – and that has some good bits to it that lets the guys have a little time while still interacting with the girls.
In Summary:
Galk-chan has another fun episode here where it plays to a range of different kinds of humor with the core group of girls while also letting the guys have a little time as well. The main trio have their moments to be sure and I’m enjoying the various topics they cover since anime very rarely tackles any of this, making it refreshing even if it is hitting largely familiar bits from elsewhere. It’s not original or new, but it’s a welcome execution within this medium.
