Nozomi Entertainment is bringing back one of their slightly older releases for a new lease on life with Gakuen Alice. The twenty-six episode series is getting released as part of their Anime Elements line that brings it out at a pretty sweet price, especially when you consider the amount of content included. The show will debut in this form on April 5th, 2016 and will be priced at $34.99. It’ll be in its original Japanese with English language subtitles and will include Clean Opening, Clean Closing, Character Bios and Liner Notes as special features.
The series originally aired in 2004 and was released in North America on DVD back in 2009. The title comes from the manga of the same name by Higuchi Tachibana, which was released in North America partially by TOKYOPOP. That incarnation ran for thirty-one volumes total, completing in the summer of 2013.
Plot concept: Mikan and Hotaru are best friends! (Well, according to Mikan, anyway. Hotaru doesn’t seem to care.) Then one day, Hotaru is escorted away in a fancy black car, apparently scouted by a school in Tokyo called “Alice Academy.” Crushed at the loss of her favorite pal, Mikan scurries after her, determined to enroll, too!
But Alice Academy is a mysterious place. Can Mikan tough it out in a school where explosions, superpowers, giant baby chicks and axe-wielding teddy bears are the norm? Though it’s not as if she has a choice, because once students enter Alice Academy, there is no escape!
