Under the radar releases tend to be more interesting, especially if you watch and consume a lot of material, because they often don’t go in the safe space area. Manga creator Man Gatarou has had a few shorts made for some of his manga works over the years and those are now finding their way into a box set release. With a sixty-minute running time for the five shorts included, it’ll be a Blu-ray only release that will be priced at 4,104 yen, making it a very affordable way to sample the works. The shorts all look like they were produced in 2009.

“Chinyuuki: Tarou to Yukai na Nakama-tachi” is a parody of “Journey to the West”, where an assassin by the name of Tarou Yamada is trying to right his misdeeds by travelling with a monk. Tarou’s misdeeds were essentially assassinating tons of people and pooping on their graves. A monk saw him and cursed him into a baby-monkey-hybrid-thing. With the help of the Monk, Tarou has to battle demons and other weird anomalies to help regain his human form.
Jigoku Koushien Concept: It’s every high school baseball team’s dream to go to the legendary Koshien Stadium Tournament. For the first time in years, Seido High School has a chance—star player Gorrila Matsui has finally given the team an opportunity to succeed. Most delighted at this prospect is Principal Kocho. His hopes are dashed, however, when the Headteacher reveals to him that the first game will be played against the infamous Gedo High School. Gedo is notorious for its brutal killings during games. They hardly play at all, instead engaging in a form of martial arts combat called “fighting baseball.” Their matches erupt into brutal battlefields, Gedo slaughtering its opponents in any way possible, and the competing team vainly struggling for their lives. The Gedo team is almost inhuman in its slaughter, and their bizarre weapons and attire coupled with their green-grey skin only increase this reputation.
