With VAP handling the home video release in Japan for Akatsuki no Yona, we’d previously gotten a look at the main covers for the first six volumes of the series. With the final volume out yesterday, we’ve got a look at the cover artwork that VAP was slow in getting out and still not providing with larger looks, unfortunately. The show is set to get an eight volume release on DVD and Blu-ray that began on May 27th, 2015 with the DVDs priced at 6,800 yen each while the Blu-ray’s are at 7,800 yen each.
The first volume, released on May 27th release date, will have three episodes on it and come with two discs. The first press edition includes the radio drama CD and a special booklet along with lottery ticket application material for an upcoming event. On disc extras include a look at the Hana to Yume event from September of last year which featured several of the actors, an original gallery of artwork, and a commentary for the first episode. The second volume, released on June 24th, will have three episodes on it and come with two discs. On disc extras include the promo and commercial collection as well as an original artwork gallery and an audio commentary for episode five.
The third volume brings us a radio drama CD and a booklet while on disc extras include a commentary for the eighth episode, a promotional video and an original artwork gallery. The fourth volume has another radio drama CD and a booklet while the on-disc extras include a new commentary for episode ten, another artwork gallery and a promotional video collection. The fifth volume runs with a radio drama CD, a booklet, the clean opening and closing as well as a picture gallery while the fourteenth episode gets a cast commentary. Volume six is set to bring another radio drama CD and booklet, another episode commentary and more promo and commercial collection material. The seventh volume includes another radio drama CD, more commentary material and another promotion video.
The series ran for two cour over the course of half a year. The manga began in 2009 in Hana to Yume and is still ongoing with over eleven volumes so far. The anime adaptation was produced by Studio Pierrot with scripts by Shinichi Inotsume. The cast includes Chiwa Saito as Yona, Tomoaki Maeno as Hak Son, Junko Minagawa as Yoon, Masakazu Morita as Ki-Ja, Nobuhiko Okamoto as Shin-Ah, Junichi Suwabe as Jae-Ha, Hiro Shimono as Zeno and Yuusuke Kobayashi as Soo-won.
Plot concept: Akatsuki no Yona centers around the princess of the Kingdom of Kouka, Yona. Despite her father’s disapproval, she’s in love with and plans to marry her cousin, Soo-won. However, her world gets turned upside down on her 16th birthday, and she is forced to flee from the palace. Now, with her friend and bodyguard Hak, Yona must set out on a journey to find out and fulfill her destiny.
