First ‘Star Trek Beyond’ Teaser Trailer Arrives

2 min read

Star Trek 3 HeaderDetails about the third installment in the new timeline for this franchise with Star Trek Beyond are still pretty light but some of that gets to change at least a little bit now that Paramount has brought out the first teaser trailer for it. Designed to get a little extra attention for the project amid the copious amounts of showings out there for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it clocks in at a brisk 95 seconds.

The film, coming out as part of the 50th anniversary of the original series next summer, was originally scheduled for a July 8th, 2016 debut. It was recently shifted a few weeks to July 22nd, 2016 due to Warner Bros. release of The Legend of Tarzan. The reason for it is that Warner has snapped up all the IMAX availability for it already, forcing the studio to shift it ahead a couple of weeks.

What the shift does do is to put is put it up against a different set of films. The July 8th date has Tarzan, The BFG and The Purge 3 arriving. The week before it comes out now there’s the new Ghostbusters film and the week after has the Bourne sequel, so there’s competition all around. On the same weekend, July 22nd, it’ll compete against Ice Age: Collision Course and Knights of the Round Table: King Arthur, which comes from Guy Ritchie.

That also gives it two weeks before Warner opens up with Suicide Squad on August 5th, which is going to get a big campaign.

Directed by Justin Lin, the film is scheduled for a July 22nd, 2016 release date. It will star Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, John Cho, Zoe Saldana and Sofia Boutella.
