With twelve films in the franchise so far, 2016 is set up for the next One Piece film that we knew was coming and now some early details have surfaced. The upcoming issue of Weekly Shonen Jump due out next Monday has already had some snaps of pages show up online where it’s revealed that the new film will be titled One Piece Gold. It’s scheduled for a July 23rd, 2016 theatrical release in Japan.
With preorder tickets set to go on sale in just under two weeks, it’s been revealed that Hiroaki Miyamoto will be directing it based on the screenplay by Tsutomu Kuroiwa. Miyamoto previously directed a good chunk of the TV series while Kuroiwa worked on The Perfect Insider this season as well as the live action Black Butler film.
Will this be a film that FUNimation can work similar to Dragon Ball Z by getting it into enough theaters and galvanizing fans to check it out, providing they acquire it of course?
