Third ‘Osomatsu’ Anime Episode Getting Altered

2 min read

Osomatsu-san Episode 1Frankly, we knew this was coming considering the uproar that occurred in Japan when the third episode aired. It’s been revealed that the third episode of the Osomatsu-san series will be altered when it arrives on home video next year. The episode contained a parody of the Anpanman anime that did not go over well and was considered disrespectful. The broadcast and streaming versions will be changed out as well, similar to the first episode that has seen its removal, with the new version coming out next Tuesday. Crunchyroll removed the first episode as well and we expect that they’ll follow through on the swap out as well.

Based on the manga by Fujio Akatsuka that ran from 1962 to 1969 and had a couple of revivals along the way, it had an adaptation in the mid 60′s and then a remake in the late 80′s. This series is serving as a sequel to it with the same animation studio from the 80′s involved, albeit with a new creative team. The original series focused on the six kids when they were young but this one takes a look at them as adults now and how their lives turned out. The promo brings out a look at them and the voice actors associated with them.

Directed by Yoichi Fujita, the series is animated by Studio Pierrot based on composition by Shu Matsubara and character designs by Naoyuki Asano.

The series stars Takahiro Sakurai as the eldest son Osomatsu, Yūichi Nakamura as the second son Karamatsu, Hiroshi Kamiya as the third son Choromatsu, Jun Fukuyama as the fourth son Ichimatsu, Daisuke Ono as the fifth son Jūshimatsu, Miyu Irino as the sixth and youngest son Todomatsu, Aya Endo as the heroine Totoko, Kenichi Suzumura as Iyami and Sachi Kokuryu as Chibita.

Original series concept: The leading character is a boy named Osomatsu, who is one of sextuplets. This zany comedy features such eccentric and over-the-top characters as bucktoothed French-styled Iymi, bald boy Chibita, big-pants Dekapan, self-absorbed cutie Totoko, and many others. Together they create many topsy-turvy confusions in the town.
