Somera-chan continues to be pretty hit or miss in the same way that a number of overly active shows like this tend to be. Since it’s such a strong gag comedy, when it doesn’t work it really doesn’t work. With this episode, we get to spend time with Konomi as she continues to be far, far, too close to Kukuru. You do have to feel for Kukuru with it but there’s plenty of cuteness to be had with it. Amusingly, Tendo sees this and tries to get Somera to stop them since homosexuality just isn’t right according to her, but poor Somera has a nosebleed over the concept. Between that and seeing how Konomi treats Kukuru and takes it in weirdly creepy directions, it’s amusing and unsettling at the same time.

In Summary:
You could truly just say WTF about every episode of this series, but some work better than others and this is one of those. While it does a lot within the three minutes it runs, it’s also able to space things out a bit with its pacing so it doesn’t feel like it’s overly hyper with what it wants to do. And that’s a big help in making it a bit more accessible instead of a wall of high pitched noise which it can be from time to time. Cute and I could certainly see more episodes like this working for me.
