What They Say
Ever caught yourself screaming, “I could just kill that teacher”? What would it take to justify such antisocial behavior and weeks of detention? Especially if he’s the best teacher you’ve ever had? Giving you an “F” on a quiz? Mispronouncing your name during roll call…again? How about blowing up the moon and threatening to do the same to Mother Earth—unless you take him out first?! Plus a reward of a cool 100 million from the Ministry of Defense! Okay, now that you’re committed… How are you going to pull this off? What does your pathetic class of misfits have in their arsenal to combat Teach’s alien technology, bizarre powers and…tentacles?!

Intramural relations are at an all-time low: Principal Asano wants to crush Koro Sensei’s 3-E baseball team while Koro Sensei wants to avenge Principal Asano’s sabotage of 3-E’s midterms. Then the government sends in a new Special Forces operative—a ruthless father figure who tests Karasuma’s combat coaching skills. You’ll never guess which student does him proud! And when Koro Sensei digs a swimming pool to help his students cool off, they discover a new weakness of his—as well as how cute their classmates look in swimsuits!

Content: (please note that content portions of this review contains spoilers):
Class 3-E doesn’t get to do much at the main school campus. But, when it is time to find a scapegoat group of losers to play in the school sports festival, well Class 3-E is placed front and center by Principal Asano. Class 3-E is treated as an example for all the other students to keep them in line, keep their heads in the books, and eliminate the chances they might become delinquents. The only problem for the regular students is Class 3-E has been working their butts off training to become assassins, and they have a lot more confidence these days! And that confidence leads to the greatest baseball showdown in school history as Koro Sensei coaches his students and Principal Asano coaches the school’s baseball team.

Mr. Karasuma’s superiors are not happy with the progression of the Class 3-E students. What with Koro Sensei still being alive and all that. So they bring in a replacement for Mr. Karasuma, a big bear of a man named Takaoka to run P.E. This new guy has hated Mr. Karasuma for their entire military career, so he his more than happy to either make Class 3-E good enough to take out Koro Sensei or kill them in the process. Either way, it will make Mr. Karasuma look bad.

At first, Takaoka plays nice with the students by treating them to cake. But as soon as the training begins, the first student to talk back gets their ass handed to them, viciously. Takaoka has a history of beating his trainees into submission, and he doesn’t plan on holding back on Class 3-E just because they are kids. Unfortunately, Mr. Karasuma can’t do anything about it and neither can Koro Sensei. Instead, Takaoka offers a trial to see who can have control of the class, him or Mr. Karasuma. Only, the trial is whether or not one of the students can land a blow with a knife on Takaoka. It is a total setup, and Mr. Karasuma knows it, but it is his only chance to get rid of Takaoka. But who can Mr. Karasuma trust to land a knife strike on a trained and hardened veteran soldier like Takaoka? My vote would probably be for Karma, but who knows, maybe there is a better student for Mr. Karasuma to take a chance on?

In Summary
Something that didn’t make it into the anime series was the manga chapter about tattoos. It is a great short chapter as the class artist, Sugaya introduces everyone to the Indian style of temporary tattoos. Sugaya is a stud artist, and he gives everyone great tattoos, and even almost melts off Koro Sensei’s face with his poisoned tattoo ink. But the best part is when Koro Sensei tattoos an unconscious Ms. Vitch! Even with that new material for people that have already seen the anime, this volume of Assassination Classroom is a great one.
