After being announced as coming out next year earlier in October, the upcoming installment of Animedia magazine has revealed that Last Exile: Ginyoku no Fam Movie – Over the wishes will debut on February 6th, 2016. The film is set for a two hour run time and now has been detailed as to what it’s about. The film is working as a newly compiled version of the 2011 TV series with 500 shots that are either newly animated or reshot alongside newly recorded dialogue where needed to bridge all the pieces together.
The original Last Exile arrived in 2003 and in 2011 we got the sorta sequel series with Last Exile: Ginyoku no Fam, both of which are released now through FUNimation.
Original concept: Years ago, humanity abandoned the ruined Earth. Generations later, with the planet again capable of sustaining life, mankind returned. In the skies above the reborn world, rebellious young Fam and her best friend Giselle make their living as Sky Pirates. Atop sleek Vespa Vanships, the girls dart fearlessly through the clouds, capturing and selling airborne battleships for profit. It’s a life of care-free swashbuckling – until the Ades Federation attacks. The only nation to remain on Earth during humanity’s exile, The Ades Federation wages war against those who returned only after the planet’s darkest days had passed. When Fam and Giselle rescue a princess from the clutches of the rampaging Ades armada, they join the young royal’s battle to save her Kingdom from destruction – and undertake the impossible mission of uniting humanity in peace.
