‘Young Black Jack’ Anime Begins Hulu Distribution

Young Black Jack Header CrunchyrollSentai Filmworks picked up the home video and additional streaming rights for Young Black Jack at the beginning of October and they’re now starting to exercise some of that. The company has now brought the series to Hulu with the first episode no streaming for viewers with new episodes set to come out weekly. Those that subscriber to Hulu get to watch this show in HD on their TV, mobile and computer.

The show is directed by Mitsuko Kase based on scripts and supervision from Ryousuke Takahashi. Miyuki Katayama and Nana Miura on board as the character designers and chief animation directors for the project that’s being animated by Tezuka Productions.

The cast includes Yuichiro Umehara as Kuro Hazama, Koji Yusa as Yabu, Shizuka Itou as Maiko Okamoto and Akio Ohtsuka as the narrator.

The adaptation brings the 2011 manga series written by Yoshiaki Tabata with artwork by Yuugo Okuma to the small screen. That series serves as a prequel to the original and has eight volumes out as of earlier this summer in Japan. While the original work from Tezuka has seen numerous adaptations over the years, this series is now getting ready for an adaptation. New Black Jack with a look at his younger and more formative years is definitely something that has a lot of potential while still adhering to what makes the character popular.

Plot concept: Based on the brilliant maverick doctor created by manga pioneer Osamu Tezuka. This prequel follows Black Jack when he was still a medical student in the 1960s.
