New ‘Full Metal Panic!’ Anime Project Approved

Full Metal Panic Image 1With a couple of successful TV series under its belt, especially with Western audiences, it has been surprising to some extent that we haven’t had more Full Metal Panic! anime material. That’s now changing as a new event in Japan this weekend announced that a new project is in the works as revealed by original creator Shoji Gatoh. Details of the anime project itself have not been revealed nor whether it’ll be a relaunch with an adaptation of the source material in a more straightforward form or if it’s a continuation of what we had before. Similarly, no staffing or casting information was revealed.

Gatoh’s original novel series, illustrated by Doug Shiki, ran for twelve volumes between 1998 and 2011. ADV Films and FUNimation previously released the anime material with FUNimation currently holding all the rights for it. The released the original series in priced-down form last month as well as the Fumoffu series.

Property concept: Jindai High School was a relatively safe place, right up until Sousuke Sagaka transferred there. A total nut, he wreaks havoc on the school’s student body and gets into a world of trouble with the teachers! But there’s more to Sousuke than meets the eye—not just a hell-raising student, he’s actually a member of an elite military unit, on an undercover mission to protect the beautiful schoolgirl Kaname Chidori from the KGB.
