It’s a big day today for Star Wars: The Force Awakens fans as there’s a lot going on. First, you can see the new Drew Struzman official poster for it tomorrow, something that will be lining up a lot of walls in people’s homes as soon as they can be had. Though the poster offers the big question of, “Where’s Luke?”, we also get the de-emphasizing of the established characters, which is a given, and an emphasis on the new – as it should be. This is still the tale of Skywalker though and that offers up some intriguing aspects – as does that new… Death Star?
Later today we’ll also see the debut of the new and final main trailer for the film, which is airing during Monday Night Football tonight during halftime. Obvious there’s no set time for it but it’ll be showing up online pretty damn fast I suspect.
Tickets for the premiere go on sale today at Imax, Regal Cinemas, Fandango, AMC Theatres and more!
And finally, Fandango has confirmed that there will be places that will be showing the original six films ahead of the new film’s release. We’ve seen marathons before and it’s zero surprise that these films will come out again. With a lot of fans lining up their Blu-ray sets for a revisit, a lot of us will be heading to the theater to see it on the big screen once again. Coming from the generation that saw the original film theatrically a couple dozen times – literally – the chance to do so again at last with my own kids is huge. Details of how the showings are being handled aren’t clear yet.
Directed by J.J. Abrams, the first film stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie and Max von Sydow. It’s set to debut on December 18th, 2015.
Plot concept: Star Wars: Episode VII is set about 30 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, and will star a trio of new young leads along with some very familiar faces.
