NBCU Japan Sets ‘Chobits’ Blu-ray Anime Box Set

2 min read

ChobitsNBC Universal Japan is now putting the formal solicitation out for a Chobits Blu-ray box set. The set is planned for a December 25th, 2015 release where it’ll bring out all twenty-seven episodes for 28,000 yen. Details are slim on the set at the moment as no extras have been revealed or packaging style, but it’s being produced across four Blu-ray discs and, so far, looks to be Japanese only.

The show is based on the eight volume manga series from CLAMP that ran between 2000 and 2002. The anime adaptation debuted in the spring 2002 season as animated by Madhouse and directed by Morio Asaka. It was originally released by Geneon Entertainment in North America and it saw its last release from FUNimation back in 2011 on Blu-ray (read our review). Madman Entertainment holds the Australian rights while MVM Films has the UK rights.

Plot concept: Tokyo is abuzz with persocoms – humanoid computers that are virtually perfect. The socially and technologically inept Hideki is dying to get his hands on one. When he finds Chi abandoned in the trash, she’s cuter than any current model he’s ever seen, but when he gets her home and turns her on, she has no data and only a single learning program installed. While Hideki puts his whole heart into teaching Chi the ins and outs of humanity, a mystery unfolds as a dark secret within her awakens.
