The fall 2015 anime series Asterisk War is definitely one of the more widely distributed shows out there at the moment and it’s now found an additional home at Hulu. The first episode of the serise is now streaming for all audiences while those that subscribe to Hulu get to watch this show in HD on their TV, mobile and computer.
The new series was previously announced to be scheduled for two cours – a first for an MF Bunko J light novel. The show is now scheduled for an October 3rd, 2015 debut in Japan and for the simulcast, with Crunchyroll to firm up the times later. The opening theme was announced to be performed by Shiena Nishizawa while Maaya Sakamoto will be handling the ending theme song.
The property comes from the light novel series The Asterisk War: The Academy City of the Water (Gakusen Toshi Asterisk). Written by Yuu Miyazaki, with art by illustrator okiura, so far eight volumes of the light novel “academy battle” action series have been published in Japan, through Media Factory.
The cast includes Atsushi Tamaru as Ayato Amagiri, Nao Touyama as Claudia Enfield, Ai Kakuma as Julis-Alexia von Riessfeld, Shiori Izawa as Saya Sasamiya, Ari Ozawa as Todo Kirin, Asterisk War Ayato Amagiri, Yūma Uchida as Eishiro Yabuki, Takanori Hoshino as Lester MacPhail, Chinatsu Akasaki as Ernesta Kuhne, Mutsumi Tamura as Camilla Pareto, Yumi Uchiyama as Irene Urzaiz, Juri Nagatsuma as Priscilla Urzaiz and Tomokazu Sugita as Dirk Eberwein.
The anime series is produced by A-1 Pictures. Staff involved include chief director Manabu Ono (The Irregular at Magic High School), director Kenji Seto (Wooser’s Hand-to-Mouth Life), with character design and animation direction by Tetusya Kawakami (Nanana’s Buried Treasure), and music by Rasmus Faber (Lagrange – The Flower of Rin-ne).
Plot concept: Amagiri Ayato arrives at The Academy City on water, Rikka—famous for the integrated battle entertainment, “Star Wars Festival”—at the invitation of the Student Council President of the Seidoukan Academy, Claudia. Soon after he incurs the wrath of the “Petalblaze Witch”, Julis, and ends up in a duel with her.
