Viewster Acquires ‘Saint Beast’ Anime Streaming Rights

2 min read

Saint BeastOne property that had a lot of fans back in the day but never saw its work licensed for home video outside of Japan is that of Saint Beast. Originally a six episode OVA series in 2003 that then saw a full TV series produced in 2007, the thirteen episode run has been picked up by Viewster for streaming. Wonderfarm animated both releases of the series, though Tokyo Kids participated in the TV series. A two episode OVA series was also produced in 2005 and 2006 with Madhouse assisting, but that’s not included in this.

The property comes from Kei Arisugawa and was directed by Harume Kosaka.

Plot concept: A long time ago, Zeus, the great god, created a three–tier hierarchy of angels, top, middle and lower, although they were supposed to be equal. Also, Zeus appointed 6 angels as Saint Beasts who govern the animals of Earth. They were: Go, the seiyu; Shin, the genbu; Rei, the suzaku; Guy, the byakko; Yuda, the kirin; and Ruka, the hooh. However, Kira, the shooting star, and Maya, the fuga, didn’t attend the selection tests and left for the Earth.

The six angels fulfilled their tasks faithfully. However, because of Zeus’s increasingly tyrannical acts, they begin to mistrust him.
