When you have some properties that have been around for decades and sold millions of copies, eventually you’ll get noticed in Hollywood. French graphic novel series The Call of the Stryx is the latest to do so as Element 8 Enetertainment is working with GRID/AT-Anim to bring the best-selling series to live-action TV form. And they’ve landed a solid writer on it to get it put together with John Harrison. With past work on the Dune work that won him an emmy and his recent Netflix series Residue that he created, wrote and directed, he’s certainly got the potential to bring this to life.
The original work recently began its English language release via ComiXology, and it’s been translated into nine languages over the course of its run so far. Delcourt Group is making inroads through the digital side to bring more of their works to English-speaking consumers.
“Provocative characters, epic storytelling, exotic locales, and a mythical creature that may not be all that it first appears, what more could I want?” said John Harrison. “Stryx is that rare graphic novel series that is a writers’ dream come true.”
Plot concept: Stryx follows an American secret agent, disgraced and on the run, who teams up with a mysterious female mercenary in his effort to clear his name. What they uncover along the way is a web of powerful interests that transcend governments, and a race of super creatures that have long inhabited the earth.
