While we’ve had a couple of promotional videos for the upcoming Valkyrie Drive -Mermaid~ anime series, promotion in general has been kind of minimal for the project. Which is surprising considering the appeal of the designs. Now that we’re just over a week away from its debut, the first TV spot has now arrived for the series. The new series is now set to go live on October 10th, 2015 on AT-X before moving to regional broadcasters on the 12th and satellite service BS11 on October 17th. The mixed media project Valkyrie Drive updated on the cast recently with the full list and it was also revealed that Hitomi Harada will be handling the opening theme song while Yuka Iguchi and Mikako Izawa will be doing the end song, all of them are being done as their characters.
With plans for a console game and smartphone game in the works, the TV series is being developed that will play a key part in the overall promotion scheme. Animated by ARMS, the series will be directed by Hikaru Kaneko based on scripts by Yousuke Kuroda. Kaneko is also handling the character designs for the series.
The previously announced cast includes Yurika Kubo as Meifon Sakura, Yuna Yoshino as Akira Hiiragi, Masumi Tazawa as Kasumi Shigure, Asami Seto as Charlotte Scherzen, Hitomi Harada as Momoka Sagara, Mikako Izawa as Mamori Shojo, Yuka Iguchi as Mirei Shikishima, Saori Ōnishi as Rein Hasumi, Azumi Asakura as Lady J and Kikuko Inoue as Torino Kazami.
Plot concept: The “beautiful girl sexy battle action” anime is set on five artificial islands. A girl named Mamori Tokonome is transferred to one of those islands, “Mermaid.” When Mamori is attacked, a newly transferred girl named Mirei saves her. The enemy doesn’t stop, however, and the two are soon cornered. Just when they think all hope is lost, Mirei kisses Mamori, and Mamori turns into a sword. Mirei then wields the sword and launches a counterattack against their enemies.
