With casting having come together a bit more recently and Simon Kinberg talking about Gambit being in the same cinematic world as X-Men and Deadpool, a new wrench has landed in the works as director Rupert Wyatt has exited the project. While there are some nods towards problems with script and budget, the main reason seems to be that the film production date has changed significantly and impacts other projects the director has. Strangely, the production has moved from this November to next March, which makes it largely impossible to meet the previously set October release date.

Wyatt issued this statement: “I was very much looking forward to working with my friend Channing and the team at Fox, but regrettably a push in the start date now conflicts with another project. I thank them for the opportunity, and I know that Gambit will make a terrific film.”

The film is scheduled for an October 7th, 2015 and will star Channing Tatum and Lea Seydoux.
