Kekkaishi

Neon Alley began expanding their offerings earlier this summer with Kekkaishi getting some fresh love as dubbed episodes being added to the service. While the service previously and currently streams the entire fifty-two episode series in its original Japanese language, they’ve been adding the English language version to it. The next batch of thirteen episodes of the 2006 to 2008 anime series are now available for everyone to check out in North America with episodes twenty-seven through thirty-nine now running.

The series is based on the manga of the same name from Yellow Tanabe, which Viz Media also released, that ran from 2003 to 2011 for thirty-five volumes. The show also got a Cartoon Network run at one point as well.

You can read our review of the first DVD set here.

Plot concept: Mystical forces are powerful in the region called Karasumori. For over 400 years, it has been the duty of a clan of Kekkaishi—barrier masters—to guard the land, exterminating the supernatural beasts which appear there night after night. Yoshimori Sumimura is a 14-year-old student at Karasumori School. Following in the tradition that’s come down through the generations, he is the twenty-second Kekkaishi of the Sumimura clan. But he’s constantly fighting with his rival, Tokine Yukimura—his childhood friend and also a Kekkaishi—about who is the rightful heir to the magical barrier arts. Protecting people from danger while growing stronger himself, Yoshimori will battle the forces of evil again tonight!
