The first week of sales rankings in Japan for the month of September have arrived and there’s definitely some good news to be had in there for fans of various series. Kuroko’s Basketball: Extra Game with its first volume lands with over 231,000 units in its first days of sale to take the top spot and it’s followed by four other series that make up new releases that dominate the top five. The top ten is a pretty good mix of second week sales and new releases and that’s definitely the healthy release style we like to see since it’s not so completely front-loaded. Case in point is One Piece where the most recent volume continue to add about 20,000 units even at this stage, bringing it up to over 2.8 million copies. Particularly noteworthy as the next volume is just three weeks away.
On the light novel side, the latest installment of Kuroko’s Basketball: Replace takes the top spot with just under 60,000 units sold, again proving the overall popularity of the franchise that now has three TV seasons of anime behind it. WE also get the debut of a new Naruto novel and the second Haikyuu!! team book. What’s adding a lot of good sales here are the previous volumes of Overlord where they’re all averaging about 10,000 units this period, bringing some of them up to a very good level and bringing the first one past the 100,000 mark.
