Discotek Media Sets ‘Library Wars’ Anime DVD Release, Cover Artwork

2 min read

Library WarsDiscotek Media picked up the rights to the Library Wars anime franchise with the twelve episode TV series back in April. They’re moving fast with this release as they’ve now announced a November 4th, 2015 release for the title and have shown off the cover artwork for it that you can see below. We expect some minor tweaking for logos, but beyond that it’s looking fairly finalized.

The show aired in the spring of 2008 and produced an OVA and a movie after that. It’s being released in its original Japanese language with English subtitles only as a complete collection with the date to be decided later and presumably DVD only, though it wasn’t specified. The series was directed by Hamana Takayuki based on scripts by Kenji Konuta and character designs by Satoru Nakamura, who also served as the animation director. The property is based on the light novel series by Hiro Arikawa that ran for four volumes between 2006 and 2007. A fifteen-volume manga adaptation with artwork by Kiir Yumi started in late 2007 and ran until February 2015.

Plot concept: Toshokan Sensou tells the story of Kasahara Iku, the first woman to join the Library Task Force. In the near future in Japan, the Media Enhancement Law has been forced upon the population censoring all books and media. To counter this, the Library Defense Force was created. To protect themselves against the Media Enhancement Law Commission, all major libraries are fully equipped with a military Task Force, who take it upon themselves to protect the books and freedom of media of the people. This anime follows Iku and her fellow soldiers as they protect various special books and artifacts from the oppression of the Media Enhancement Law Commission. A love story, war story, and comedy all rolled into one.

  1. Given that a close family member is a librarian, I don’t know how this one got by me. Gotta watch this.
