Morinaga’s Survival Guide to Comic Market 88

1 min read

comicmarket-88-catalogComic Market 88, the world’s largest biannual doujin convention, is in full swing at Tokyo Big Sight this weekend, August 14th through the 16th.

Like San Diego’s ComicCon it gets bigger every time and more and more companies, entertainment or otherwise, are also finding ways to participate in the three-day event. The Japanese confectioner, Morinaga, as part of its promotional campaign for its Weider in Jelly brand, offered boxes of the energy food packs to Comic Market 88’s volunteer staff.

And for those attending the event, earlier this month they produced a “How to Survive Comic Market” video for their YouTube channel.

The four and a half minute movie, subtitled in English and featuring a foreigner very much a stranger in a strange land, serves as good-humored and oddly practical guide to attending Comic Market. Offering tips on what to do when you arrive, warnings about the weather, how the long lines work, what to do when you see a cosplayer, and even the proper behavior for purchasing items.

It also serves as the jumping off point for our coverage of Comic Market 88 over the next couple days. Look forward to our usual digest of on-the-ground social media reports from the event, and in the mean time, enjoy this pre-flight movie:
