Hanabee Acquires ‘God Eater’ Anime Rights

2 min read

God EaterAfter Crunchyroll recently picked up some streaming rights for God Eater that didn’t include Australia, it was only a matter of time before someone stepped forward to claim it. That’s now happened as Hanabee has announced that they’ve picked up the rights for it and will be streaming it in Australia as well as a home video release in the future. The details of that will be some time in coming since the show is currently broadcasting in Japan and has a ways to go with home video releases.

The show has set Takayuki Hirao to direct it. Hirao has a solid background to be sure and has done work for the games, but he also worked on the Gyo OVA, which is hilariously vicious, as well as the fifth installment of the Garden of Sinners project. The project has also brought on board Keita Shimizu to handle the character designs for the series, which will be interesting as he handled the animation on Fate/Zero.

The cast includes Ryuichi Kijima as Renka Utsugi, Hiroaki Hirata as Lindow Amamiya, Maaya Sakamoto as Alisa Illinichina Amiella, Kazuya Nakai as Soma Schicksal, Daisuke Sakaguchi as Kota Fujiki and Sayaka Ohara as Sakuya.

Plot concept: The Far East, 2071. The domain of the mad gods. In the early 2050s, unknown life forms called “Oracle cells” begin their uncontrolled consumption of all life on Earth. Their ravenous appetite and remarkable adaptability earn them first dread, then awe, and finally the name “aragami”. In the face of an enemy completely immune to conventional weapons, urban civilization collapses, and each day humanity is driven further and further toward extinction. One single ray of hope remains for humanity. Following the development of “God Arcs”—living weapons which incorporate Oracle cells—their wielders are organized into an elite force. In a world ravaged by mad gods, these “God Eaters” fight a desperate war…
