With a quiet release this past May, the home video release plans for Tensai Bakavon: Yomigaeru Flanders no Inu have no surfaced. The film is set for an October 23rd, 2015 debut in Japan where the limited edition Blu-ray is priced at 5,500 yen while the regular edition is at 4,700 yen and the DVD st 3,800 yen. Details of what’s included with any of the releases are unavailable at the moment.
The reworking of the famous property from director FROGMAN was the latest to poke fun at some familiar works. It was produced by DLE Inc with help from Nippon Animation and Pierrot.
Plot concept: In this spoof, the orphan Nello and his dog Patrash decide to take revenge instead of going to heaven. Nello and Patrash now orchestrate a shadowy organization, and Bakabon’s family decides to confront them to save the world.
I like the concept. The notion of changing fictitious works’ outcomes has long been a comedy staple. A parody of “It’s a Wonderful Life” that SNL did years back springs to mind. But there’s too little here to suggest anything beyond a one-joke concept.
