As we move towards the middle part of the summer season of The Strain, currently in its second season, FX has revealed that the series has been renewed for a third season that will premiere next summer. This matches up to what happened last year as the second season got a thirteen episode order back in August 2014 that we’ve been covering this summer. This was the plan that the show had set as FX has talked about this as a definite story with a beginning, middle and end that could range from 39-65 episodes depending on how it unfolds. What remains to be seen is whether they flesh it out with a fourth and fifth season or if it all wraps up in the third season, which was something talked about early on. FX is definitely looking for more shows to anchor the network, but The Strain hasn’t been the stronger show they hoped it would be.
Plot concept: The Strain is a high concept thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself.
