The summer anime series Shimoneta: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist has aired three episodes so far and that means we mostly just get individual episode previews. But sometimes distributors put out an extra push and this series is getting that from King Records. This time around it’s an extended two minute promo of the series, done in widescreen, with a serious and emotional song playing against the silliness and fanservice of the series itself. It’s quite the dynamic to watch unfold, but it also gets you to check out the animation itself more and potentially entice you to watch. The series got its simulcast pickup as well from FUNimation and the show is landing on their service on Saturday’s at 2pm ET for their users while also showing up a week or so later on Hulu.
The series is directed by Youhei Suzuki based on the scripts by Masahiro Yokotoani and with character designs by Masahiro Fuji. The series is being animated by JC Staff. The official site has now updated with a look at the cast, expanding it a bit with more of the supporting characters. The cast members announced for it include Shizuka Ishigami as Ayame Kajō, Yūsuke Kobayashi as Tanukichi Okuma, Miyu Matsuki as Anna Ninomiya, Saori Goto as Hyōka Fuwa, Satomi Arai as Otome Saotome, Kenta Miyake as Raiki Gōriki, Yui Horie as Kosuri Onigashira, Sumire Uesaka as Oboro Tsukimigusa and Yui Ogura as Binkan-chan.
The light novel series comes from Hirotaka Akagi under the Gagaga Bunko imprint with illustrations by Eight Shimotsuki. It began back in 2012 and has seven volumes published so far, as well as a manga adaptation from earlier this year. No details about who is behind the production or involved in the creative side has been revealed yet.
Plot concept: 16 years after the “Law for Public Order and Morals in Healthy Child-Raising” banned coarse language in the country, Tanukichi Okuma enrolls in the country’s leading elite public morals school and is soon invited into the Anti-Societal Organization (SOX) by its founder, Ayame Kajou. As a member blackmailed into joining by Ayame, Tanukichi ends up taking part in obscene acts of terrorism against the talented student council president Anna (for whom Tanukichi has a crush on).
