While the Sidonia girds up to take the battle to the Greater Cluster Ship, a lethal threat that has been brewing within finally erupts.

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
With the launch of the tactical defense cruiser Mizuki, the crew of the Sidonia has been gearing up for something big but they didn’t know what. Only the Captain knew, but now she is ready to give her rallying speech to the Sidonia; they are going to attack and hopefully destroy the Guana Greater Cluster Ship!!

The engineers of the Sidonia have managed to create these massive energy conversion units that can harness the energy of a star. That energy can then be directed into a massive cannon that should be able to decimate any Guana, including the Greater Cluster Ship. Only problem is that it takes 10 hours between shots. So, it is basically a one chance deal; hit it and win or miss and be destroyed. It is all in time and only one species is going to walk away from this.

Tanikaze seems to be mostly clueless when it comes to the people around him, but that is certainly understandable considering he spent his entire life in an abandoned part of the ship. Thus, he can’t be expected to be to socially adept. Regardless, he feels strongly that it is his responsibility to protect everyone, shown by his constant disregard of orders so he can save his fellow pilots in combat. It is an admirable trait, even if it will probably get him killed. But with all that, I have to wonder if the sheer weight of this decision by the Captain is wearing on Tanikaze. Seems possible considering he opens up and confesses his feelings for one of his three female roommates.

Which one did he choose in this epic space harem drama? The answer shocks the hell out of me!

In Summary
This volume builds up to a lot of potential ways for the Sidonia to be destroyed. First, the Captain wants to pick a final battle with the Guana Greater Cluster Ship using the massively powerful Graviton Radial Emitter that harnesses energy from a star. Second, the other hybrid Human/Guana has been awakened released by Ochiai’s minion that was hiding among the crew. This second hybrid breaks free of the ship and Tsumugi goes out to meet him. This begs the question whether Tsumugi will side with another hybrid like herself, or the humans. Either way, things are building to an explosive next volume.
