‘Riverdale’ Setting Up Shop At The CW

2 min read

RiverdaleAnnounced as going into development last fall with plans being set up at Fox, the live action adaptation of the Archie Comics world has now landed at The CW. The project is still retaining the same creative players with Warner Bros. and the Berlanti production company, which has some strong works at the network with Flash and Arrow.

The series script and concept is being penned by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who is the Chief Creative Officer at Archi Comics. The series is intended to be called Riverdale.

“The CW is a perfect for for the vibe and tone of the Riverdale series,” said Archie Comics CEO/Publisher, Jon Goldwater. “We couldn’t be in better hands. Working with WB, Greg Berlanti and having Roberto involved has made this a dream project come to life. This is a major, major thing for this company.”

With this in development at the same time as the newly relaunched main series, it’s expected that the two will have some strong similarities at first.

“Riverdale is named after the fictional town where most Archie Comics characters reside and which will serve as the setting for the show. Set in the present, the series offers a bold, subversive take on Archie, Betty, Veronica and their friends, exploring the surreality of small-town life — the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome façade.”

“The series will showcase the eternal love triangle of Archie Andrews, girl-next-door Betty Cooper and rich socialite Veronica Lodge and will include the entire cast of characters from the comic books — including Archie’s rival Reggie Mantle and slacker best friend Jughead Jones. Popular gay character Kevin Keller also will play a pivotal role, with other characters from Archie Comics’ expansive library also slated to appear, including Josie and the Pussycats.”
