‘Green Lantern’ Film Becomes ‘Green Lantern Corps’ Film

2 min read

Green Lantern CorpsThough no details are actually available for it yet, which makes sense since it’s not slated until 2020, the previously announced Green Lantern film as part of Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment’s push to maximize their superhero stable of characters has undergone a change. During the panel today at SDCC where an overall promo of various films coming was shown, it was revealed that the new film will be a Green Lantern Corps film when it does arrive.

This is potentially a very smart move as it can take the franchise off of Earth and give it a fully spacebound adventure akin to Guardians of the Galaxy in a sense, albeit with a wholly different focus. But shifting away from Earth and the elements there is definitely a good thing.

The Green Lantern Corps itself has been around since it was introduced in 1959 as part of Showcase #22, which was created by writer John Broome and artist Gil Kane. This is what set the larger aspects of what they wanted to do with the relaunched and revitalized character after the golden age incarnation, riding into the 1960’s with the science fiction aspect as the space race was getting into full swing.

There’ve been several different series over the years featuring the corps as a whole as well as various spinoffs and lots of appearances in big events and elsewhere.
