While Crunchyroll announced a number of new shows and dates for premieres, they also had a few that were… less than clear. With a premiere set for just a couple of days, Million Doll will be coming on the service… sometime. The series is the anime adaptation of the web manga series Million Doll from Ai that has a formal July 6th, 2015 premiere date in Japan.
Keiichiro Kawaguchi will direct the show based on scripts by Momoko Murakami. Kawaguchi has a solid list of works behind him, with two shows last year with Dragon Collection and Jinsei, but a lot of his works aren’t shows that have been picked up for release. Murakami has several shows in their recent credits such as Magical Warfare and Locodol.
The cast includes Aina Kusuda as Sumire, Miku Itou as Mariko, Yui Watanabe as Momona, Mayu Iizuka as Rina and Eriko Matsui as Yurino.
The series began back in 2013 and can be found here online to read. The project is being headed by Asahi Production for the animation and since it revolves around idols, it’s going to work the casting through public auditions, which certainly makes sense. The series is being planned for a July premiere date and several events are being planned in Japan to promote the show and those that end up being cast in it.
Plot concept: The story revolves around Sūko, an idol-loving hikikomori (shut-in) who has one ability: To make any idol popular through the power of blogging. She puts her sights on the Fukuoka idol Itorio and tries to make her sell more, but she is impeded by the charismatic idol Ryūsan and the underground idol Mariko. The author of the manga is an idol otaku herself.
