Fox has been moving on its various X-Men properties to varying degrees lately, but with the Gambit film scheduled for an October 7th, 2015 bow, Channing Tatum set to take on the lead role, and apparently an appearance in X-Men: Apocalypse, all that the Gambit film needs is a director.
That’s now been settled as Fox has brought on Rupert Wyatt to direct. Fox definitely liked what Wyatt brought to the table with the Rise of the Planet of the Apes film that got the new series of films rolling, though he didn’t stay for the sequel. Coming on board here could be another round of that, where he gets to set the table for what comes next, but without the pressures of dealing with it.
Spinning this out of X-Men: Apocalypse, even as a minor role, is definitely a solid thing to do as it helps Fox to promote the interconnected nature of the films as well.
