What they Say:
This week’s theme is “how to accept grief.” Can you overcome grief by accepting it?! And that well-known Warring States general attends a mixer for a change of pace?!
The Review:
Content:
As has been said in my previous reviews the show seems to be becoming dull even to itself. Thus, the writers decided the only thing that could compel the viewer to continue the series is dedicating an episode to their presumably old and buried Oda Nobunaga fanfiction. It all began with Ryou screaming only for a legitimate reason this time as he, Asuna, and Pervert Nurse have been transported back to medieval (?) Japan. We promptly find out that Pervert Nurse is a huge history buff which she proudly proclaims while having a nose bleed.
Oda Nobunaga realizes that his death is imminent. Asuna asks Ryou what the stages of grief, which Oda Nobunaga needs to go through, are. Ryou explains that the first stage is despair which Nobunaga exhibits for the audience. As Ryou prattles off the stages of grief, the quartet of wacky whiners reaches a psychological road block: Nobunaga cannot accept his death in the episode’s 5 minute run time. Pervert Nurse’s solution is simple: have a mixer! Pervert Nurse decides they’re all going to play the king’s game which where the show decided, “Hey! Why don’t we make the Pervert Nurse x Oda Nobunaga pairing canon!” This potential scenario is enough to cheer up Oda Nobunaga who prances off to battle. Pervert Nurse wakes up and realizes that this whole episode has been a dream. Much like the reviewer wishes it was presently.
In Summary:
It’s up for debate at this point, which is worse: boring, repetitive formula or a filler episode in a show that already had no plot to speak of to begin with? It’s a difficult choice but I will go with the formula. This episode of filler was at the very least entertaining as a guilty pleasure. Which, if you follow my reviews, (a shameless plug, please forgive me) is exactly what I watch anime for. So it succeeded in that respect. A quality piece of media, however, it is not. If you have followed this show to this episode this one might be worth a gander. The few mildly curious viewers have likely abandoned this show ages ago. As such, I will say if you have plowed through the show thus far this episode is a step up from some of the more recent ones.
