2 min read

The MagiciansAfter getting picked up for a series order earlier this month with plans for a Winter 2016 debut, SyFy has now revealed the first trailer for the TV series The Magicians. It’s working solely off the pilot material itself as it’s going to be filming this summer. Described as a Harry Potter for adults, the first novel landed in 2009 with a second in 2011. The series comes from Supernatural showrunner Sera Gamble and John McNamara and is set with Michael London to produce at Universal Cable Productions. Gamble and McNamara are set to write the pilot script with London producing as he had optioned the novel back in 2009.

The series stars Jason Ralph, Stella Maeve (Chicago P.D.), Hale Appleman (Teeth), Arjun Gupta (Nurse Jackie) and Summer Bishil (Towelhead, Lucky 7) also star in this one hour drama.

Plot concept: Based upon Lev Grossman’s best-selling books, The Magicians stars Jason Ralph (A Most Violent Year, Aquarius) as Quentin Coldwater, a brilliant grad student who enrolls in Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy, a secret upstate New York university specializing in magic. He and his 20-something friends soon discover that the magical fantasy world they read about as children is all too real – and poses grave danger to humanity.
